I’m 25 years old, and I lost my mother 4 weeks ago, we had her funeral this week and I feel as if the world has just been pulled from underneath me. I lost my dad two years ago, and I feel totally lost and alone. I keep texting her phone hoping for a response, everything seems so stressful and I’m overwhelmed all the time. I’m on here hoping that others can relate and offer me guidance on how to pick myself up and try carrying on.

Hi Kaylo, I lost my mum 8 months ago and am still struggling to come to terms with it. It’s still overwhelming months on and doesn’t seem real. The way I got through the first days and weeks was just to literally take it second by second. It’s a rollercoaster that’s you’re not in control of and I found that very hard. Emotions come thick and fast and I didn’t know how to deal with them. The one person that would normally help me navigate things is no longer there. If you have any friends that have ever lost someone close to them talk to them. They know how you feel and will help you. You will find solace and help from the most unlikeliest of places. Sorry it’s not the beat advice but I’m still trying to work it all out myself xx

    Hello Kaylo & Nicc26,

We’re sorry to read about both of your parental losses and to hear how you’re both feeling. The loss of a parent can be a complete shock to the system and it’s natural to wonder how to cope, or how to come to terms with everything that’s happened. As Nicc26 has already mentioned Kaylo, it can be helpful during this time to try and focus second by second rather than hour by hour or day by day.

The important thing when you have lost someone you love is to let yourself grieve for as long and as much as you feel you need to. There is no right or wrong way to grieve however getting support during this difficult time can be a comfort for some. While everyone copes with grief differently, people often tell us that talking can be helpful. Some people choose to confide about how they’re feeling with a close family member or friend, whereas others may prefer to talk to a Support Line such as ourselves. If you feel this would be beneficial, we’re here to listen on Freephone 0800 090 2309. You can also talk with us live online through our web chat function if you would prefer, here: https://bit.ly/2JU7XBF .

Nicc26, we're sure that many people will be able to resonate with the words you have shared through here. Thank you so much for taking the time to share with Kaylo your personal experience of grief and what has helped you so far during this difficult time with losing your mum. We hope that you both feel comfortable to continue to talk with each other and others through here as a way of support. We also feature information on our website about getting support which you may find helpful here: https://bit.ly/2iBeQ0b .

    Take care,
