I’m 22 I lost my mum 9 months ago. I can’t explain to anyone how much it hurts and how much I miss her every single day , I feel like everyone thinks I should be able to get on with life now & it’s impossible. The only person that would understand is my mum.

    Hi Katie,

I am sorry to read about the death of your mum and about how much you miss her every single day. Nine months is not very long and it is normal and understandable that you are still mourning and grieving for her. Grief is a very personal experience with no rights and wrongs and no time limit. I am pleased you have reached out for support and I hope that others reading this post will share their experiences with you.

Many people tell us that talking can help them to start to process their thoughts and feelings and you are very welcome to continue to share your's with us here, or if you would prefer to chat in real time with a Support Line Officer you can contact us on Freephone 0800 090 2309 or by webchat.

We have some information about grief and its stages which you may want to read here: https://www.mariecurie.org.uk/help/support/bereaved-family-friends

Thank you so much for your reply. I just don’t ever see a way that I will ever be Able to come to terms with the fact that my mum isn’t actually here anymore. When I think about it , I feel like I can’t even breathe the pain incredibly powerful. Xx

    Hello Katie,

Thank you for coming back to us and for sharing more about your situation. It sounds as though things are especially difficult for you at the moment. It can be normal for grief to evoke many different emotions as well as physical symptoms. Have you spoken to a healthcare professional about how you’re feeling, such as your GP?

You’re welcome to continue sharing with us how you’re feeling here on the community or through our Freephone Support Line, you can also read about grief and grieving in your own way if you feel like it would be helpful here: https://www.mariecurie.org.uk/help/support/bereaved-family-friends/dealing-grief/grieving-your-way .

Hopefully others here on the community will also share their experience and what has helped them cope after the loss of a loved one.

    Take care,

Bonnie - Marie Curie Support Line Team
