My father is in the last days of life.

He today he has now passed black tarry stools and has blood in his urine, from the information i can find this indicates internal bleeding, and in some posts i did find info on they said their loved ones passed away the next day.

how long does he have? i know i should just pick up the phone and ring to get the answer but there is such a big part of me that is too scared to do that.  im desperate to get him through xmas, but with every day something else happens and all of a sudden 6 days seem such a long time away.  Macmillan are due day after tomorrow and a nurse in the morning so if i am brave enough i guess i will ask them in the morning.  ridiculous really, i am searching for answers but not sure i am prepared for them.

Hi, I’m sorry to hear about your father’s illness. Supporting a loved one through a terminal illness can bring intense emotions at times. This may be especially so when they are reaching the end of their life so it’s understandable that you are searching for answers but not certain that you are prepared for what they might be. Would it be helpful to tell one of the nurses that you have questions but are worried about the answers? Your father’s community nurse and Macmillan nurse will be familiar with families feeling like this.  You may also find it helpful to speak to Cancer Research UK’s information nurses on 0808 800 4040.
