We appreciate that you might not be able to
see your loved ones like you normally would. Here are some tips to keeping in
touch that might be useful:
Use
video calling
Seeing family and
friends may be an important part of your loved one’s life. Showing your face on
a video call (whether that’s over WhatsApp, Facetime or Skype) can help that
feeling of being together.
Make
them something
A homemade gift
can often feel like a really special gesture.. From art to craft, poems to
posies, have a think about what the person would really like, then have fun
making it.
Co-ordinate
your TV time
You could agree
to watch the latest episode of their favourite programme (whether on live TV or
catch-up) at the same time – so you can share your reactions in real time over
text, or on a phone call afterwards.
Smile
through the window
If you live close
to your loved one and can ‘visit’ while following current government rules, you
could see them from outside their window. You could wave, blow kisses and talk
to them on the phone while you’re outside. Seeing a friendly face could
make their day.
Recognise
being apart can be hard
It can be hard
not to see the people you love and it’s okay to feel sad about it. Try to
remember that this is not your fault. It may be the best way to reduce the risk
of people getting coronavirus. It may help to talk to family and friends about
how you’re feeling.
Are you using any
other ways of keeping in touch that you’re finding helpful during this time?
